We went up to Cromwell (in the snow) to spend a day with the other area schools and learn about Local Curriculum.
This day was cut short as schools needed to go home due to the snow. Unfortunately this cut short the afternoon section which is where we meet with the other junior teachers. I find these sessions the most important, so this was disappointing.
The lunch was delicious.
The Matariki Evening was a community planned event that included a performance from our school Kapa Haka and art displayed from our Whanau Group Art sessions.
The art sessions were run in Whanau groups and were really popular with the children as they got to work with different ages. I did weaving and focused on the Matariki star cluster.
The evening itself was a huge success and it was great to have some time to have discussions with families about Matariki itself.
Hopefully this is a yearly run event.
This day was a follow on from the PD day at Holy Family school. It was great to learn about all the process of Structured literacy after watching it in action.
Carla has a fine tuned approach to ensuring ALL children achieve in reading, writing and spelling. I took away so much important information from this day and decided to find a way to fund the programme for my class.
I found some amazing connections with other schools in the area that are using the approach too, so I am able to keep in contact with what they are doing.
Last night we held our school expo evening this was an awesome opportunity to show what we are doing at LAS and get feedback and feedforward from parents on strategic planning.
Unfortunately I could not attend this evening personally, but I prepared a great board on our inquiry unit of Friday Funday. I helped Konica from the board to prepare all the process and kai for the Hangi.
There was fantastic feedback from all teachers and parents on the whole evening.
I travelled to Wanaka with my RTLB Kerren, to attend a PD day at Holy Family School. It was amazing to watch a whole school using the I-Deal platform and see how it worked with their learners.
It was also amazing to see their amazing results from using Structure Literacy and the effect this approach has had on their students.
I took away some amazing ideas and great relationships from this day. I will follow it up with a PD day with Carla McNeill and the I-deal team.
This was a great information evening, I found that it was a great way to having my parents in to talk over how I would be using Structured Literacy this year. We discussed home reading of Decodable readers and had a great discussion.
I had 8 parents and this was a great turn out for there being 12 students in my class.
